ENVISION THE FUTURE UPDATE

This is an exciting time for Brookside Community Church. Envision the Future is the name we have given to our process for crafting a strategic plan. Our strategic plan will include a vision statement along with some goals and objectives. This process is an adaptation of what is commonly known as Appreciative Inquiry. The Appreciative Inquiry process involves four phases.

We have already completed the first two phases during two Sunday morning, congregation-wide conversations. During the first phase, we identified the best things about our congregation. In the second phase, we set some priorities and dreamt about our future. Now we are at the beginning of the Design Phase where we will be crafting a vision statement and setting some goals together.

The most important part of our Envision the Future strategic plan will be our vision statement. Our vision statement will be a bold statement about the Brookside Community Church of the future—as if it has already happened.

Vision statements tell us what we want to become (“be” statements), not how we are going to get there (“do” statements). The “do” part will come later.

In an effort to craft a vision statement, Sunday April 23, the Envision Team is providing the congregation with Conversation Cards. These cards will include ten visioning terms and three engagement questions. With these terms, we want to begin a congregational conversation. This conversation will allow the whole church body to participate in the visioning process.

On May 21, in lieu of our normal Sunday worship service, we will be holding a two hour Vision Summit from 9 to 11am. During the Vision Summit, the congregation will come together to draft our vision statement. The Conversation Card is your invitation to engage in the visioning process and maximize your ability to participate in our Vision Summit.

Conversation Cards will also be available in the church office until our Vision Summit on May 21.   Please feel free to bring these cards with you to Coffee Hour, Koinonia Conversations, Sunday Suds, Common Grounds Coffeehouse, or other community events. Every effort will be made for a member of the Envision Team to be available during these events to answer questions and receive feedback.
