Judy Herndon

Organist Judy Herndon grew up in Brookside where her dad was Postmaster.  After graduating from Morristown High School (the Mendhams hadn't yet built their own high school), Judy did secretarial work for Bell Labs.  While still in school, she served as the church's organist and, with the help of a  small scholarship provided by the church, as well as her own savings, Judy was able to enroll at Westminster Choir College in Princeton.  She graduated with a B.A. in Organ Performance.

At Westminster Judy met Thomas Herndon.   They married and spent some twenty years in Germany, where Tommy sang tenor roles with the Darmstadt and Hamburg Opera Companies and Judy raised their son and daughter.    Following her husband's death, Judy returned to Brookside, and when the post of organist became available, she found herself right back at her old church job!

When the church sanctuary was enlarged in 1996, a new organ was created for Brookside Community Church by the Walker Technical Company. This state-of-the-art organ has three manuals and a pedalboard, controlling 47 speaking stops.   Several mixtures are available, as well as three Celestes, two kinds of Diapasons, two 32-foot pedal stops, various reeds, and a Fanfare Trumpet.
