The Brookside Community Church offers many vocal and instrumental opportunities for children and youth. Music provides a great avenue for worship and praise for children as well as opportunities for religious education and musical enrichment. Under the direction of Lauren Johnson, there are three vocal choirs which are an integral part of our Sunday worship services and perform multiple times during the year. All choirs rehearse on Sunday morning.
The Preschool Class sings on a weekly basis as a part of the Sunday School curriculum. Children learn age appropriate bible themed songs as well as participate in games, rhythm instrument activities, and musical movement. Music time is also offered to the nursery class.
The Junior Choir is composed of elementary school aged children. This group practices weekly from 10:30 – 11 am. They sing mostly treble songs as well as join in musical games and rhythm instrument activities.
The Youth Choir includes youth from grades 5th and up. They rehearse weekly from 9 to 9:30 am and sing two and three part harmony songs from a variety of musical styles ranging from classical to gospel and contemporary Christian music. Additionally, intergenerational singing occurs several times a year when the junior and youth choirs join the adult choir for morning worship.
Youth instrumentalists are involved in worship performing preludes, summer solos, music on Christmas Eve, selections on Children’s Sunday as well as accompanying the adult choir. Additionally, high school and college instrumentalists and vocalists present benefit concerts at the church for Maggie Doyne’s Kopila Valley School and Home in Nepal.
