@ Brookside . . . Week of June 12th

Due to the Patriots’ Race, we will be moving worship to 10am at Grace Lutheran in Mendham. Find more info here: https://www.gracemendham.org/

“Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.  While President Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, many enslavers continued to hold enslaved Black people captive after that date.  On June 19, 1865, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and slavery.  Thus, Juneteenth became a symbolic date representing African American freedom.  Juneteenth officially became the 11th federal holiday on June 17, 2021.”

Messiah Episcopal in Chester, together with Brookside UCC and other local congregations will commemorate this date with a service of music, readings, prayer, resources, and children’s activities.  Please join us.

Contact Nicolette if you’re able to help that day. We need 1-2 people to set up, 1-2 people to host the table, and 1-2 people to help clean up. We also need cookies and other goodies to give away at the table. Share God’s love and welcome all!

Please talk to Pastor Nicolette or Moderator Sally P. if you are interested in helping in any of these areas.

In our Hearts, In our Prayers:

The prayers shared aloud on Sunday morning*

Those who grieve, especially the loved ones of Marion Rames (grandmother of Kellie F) and James Miller (father of Jack M)

The lonely, the isolated, the anxious, the fearful

The sick, the dying, the grieving

Students, teachers, administrators

All who continue to be impacted by Covid-19

The people of Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, and all who live in places of uncertainty and violence

Our leaders, our communities, our nation
