Welcome our New Intern, Betsy!

My name is Betsy Broome. I recently graduated from Drew Theological School with a Master of Divinity and am in the UCC ordination process. Two interests that I cultivated during seminary are pastoral care and creation care, particularly as it relates to food, gardening and fostering sacred connections to God’s earth.

I’ve been part of the UCC and involved in the life of the church since I was a child, attending a Congregational church in Rhode Island with my family. I’ve been an active member of the Mountain Lakes Community Church for the past 24 years.

When my two children were young, I participated in their faith formation as a teacher and through other activities, such as choir and church plays. Later in life, I helped to lead and coordinate church retreats, family dinners and the Stephen Ministry, a lay pastoral care ministry. As a seminary student, I trained as a hospital chaplain in palliative care.

Now I seek to learn what it is like to be a pastor of a church, and I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to intern with Rev. Siragusa and BCC. I look forward to learning from Rev. Siragusa and each of you and to hear how I might best serve God and your congregation during my internship.

Betsy will be with us from March 15th-January 15th. Please offer her a warm welcome as she gets to know the church!

We will then turn to preparing for a broad, public launch in April. Please consider joining us. We’re hoping to have a team of 4-10 people from our congregation attend. In our Hearts, In our Prayers:

For George L. & all who are recovering from surgery
For the Marucci family, the Behnke family, and all those who grieve and are unable to gather in person.
For Linda H., Sam’s brother, and all who are facing Covid-19
For Lolita and Tatiana (associates of Dennis)

For Nicole F. and her children Sam and Daniel
For our nation & the world
For the prayers lifted in worship on Sunday.

For first responders, medical and healthcare professionals, and leaders who are guiding us in this time of pandemic.

For justice and equality for all God’s children.

For educators, for students, for parents.

For all who are economically impacted.

For the lonely, the isolated, the anxious, the fearful, the sick.
