@ Brookside . . . Week of January 30th

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW MEETING DATE! Just like the SuperBowl, we’ve postponed our meeting date by one week to February 13th. At the end of 2021, we switched over to new accounting software. Staff and volunteers have diligently entered every check, debit, and donation into the new system, but we need a little more time to generate the final 2021 financial reports and proposed budget. You can help by:

Submitting your 2022 giving plan here - https://brooksidecc.breezechms.com/form/851661

Want to be more involved? Contact the office at office@brooksidechuch.org we’ll work to find a good fit for your talents and interests.

February is Black History Month. If you’d like to enhance your skills in discussing race, you are invited to join The Mendhams Diversity Committee in reading "So You Want To Talk About Race" by Ijeoma Oluo. Copies are available through local booksellers, online, and through the our local libraries (including ebook and audio recordings). Register in advance for this conversation:

https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZctdu-qrDwrEtfztivKJz9ALroEeFTXmc0g

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing the link and additional information on joining the conversation.

"In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Ijeoma Oluo offers a revelatory examination of race in America

Protests against racial injustice and white supremacy have galvanized millions around the world. The stakes for transformative conversations about race could not be higher. Still, the task ahead seems daunting, and it’s hard to know where to start. How do you tell your boss her jokes are racist? Why did your sister-in-law hang up on you when you had questions about police reform? How do you explain white privilege to your white, privileged friend?

In So You Want to Talk About Race, Ijeoma Oluo guides readers of all races through subjects ranging from police brutality and cultural appropriation to the model minority myth in an attempt to make the seemingly impossible possible: honest conversations about race, and about how racism infects every aspect of American life."

To our Friends at Brookside Church - An Invitation to Join Tuesday Bible Study in March

The Tuesday Bible Study at Grace Lutheran Church in Mendham meets weekly from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. during the fall, winter and spring. Our next 13-week session will begin in March. Each lesson stands alone but fits into an overall theme, our next focus will be: "God Frees and Redeems". We will study individual lessons with texts taken from Deuteronomy, Ezra, Matthew, John, Romans and Galatians. This study published by Augsburg/Fortress Press is based on a six-year cycle. Each participant will be given their own study book, SO PLEASE RSVP by 2/10 SO WE CAN ORDER ENOUGH.

Each session explores the meaning of the text for the original writer and audience, and for today. It also includes a list of related texts for daily Bible reading; other extensive background on each text will be sent via email prior to each lesson. A Bible (any translation) is necessary and we communicate via email. We enjoy lively discussions during our sessions which are hybrid via ZOOM and also in person at Grace Lutheran (65 East Main St., Mendham).

Our spring sessions begin in March and newcomers are welcome to join us. We are very excited to share this ministry with our friends "down the road."

Additional information is available by emailing the present teacher, Susan Pilshaw, at susan.pilshaw@verizon.net. If you are interested in joining us, please include, name, email, phone and mailing address to receive the study book. Peace, Susan Pilshaw
