@ Brookside . . . Week of August 21st

Good News Gardens Celebration @ Community of St. John Baptist

Monday, 8/29 @ 5pm

RSVP at csjbgardenofhope@gmail.com by August 28th.

Over the course of 2 seasons, The Sisters of The Community of Saint John Baptist have been blessed with the presence of so many willing to volunteer to spread the message about food security and to give service hours and/or provide prayers or donations to transform the CSJB Garden of Hope.

We have the opportunity to meet and greet the Creation Care Team from the National Office on August 29th at 5 pm. Light refreshments will be available so that we can network with these experts.

Following the ‘Meet and Greet’, participants are welcomed to join the Sisters and the Creation Care Team for evening prayer in St Marguerite's Retreat House Chapel.

We believe healthy communities start with healthy people forming strong relationships, which is why we are collaborating to host a day-long Wellness Fair. Our vision for the day includes a series of workshops covering various topics and wellness practices, an area for vendors to offer holistic health related goods and services, an area for children featuring age-appropriate programming, as well as music and food. Since the need for improved physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health in our local area has never been greater, it is important to us to be able to offer this event to the public free of charge. Contact Pastor Nicolette if you are interested in sponsorship opportunities. Invite others here: https://fb.me/e/1VRxRVTP3

Faith leaders in Chester, Mendham and Long Valley will hold a vigil at the Chester Gazebo to mark the International Day of Peace on Sep. 21. The service will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Gazebo* on Main St. at Collis Lane in downtown Chester. The interfaith vigil will include prayers, a moment of silence, music and remarks by faith leaders.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed throughout the world on September 21. In 1981, the United Nations General Assembly declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

In addition to giving by check or credit card (through Breeze), consider the following:

Corporate Matching Gifts

We are on GuideStar https://www.guidestar.org/profile/22-6052964
check with your employer or former employer (if you’re retired) to see whether they offer a matching gift program.

Give Appreciated Stocks

UCF(United Church Funds), our trusted investment partner of many years, is handling these transactions for us, which will streamline the process. A stock donation includes the sale of a security and notification to the beneficiary of the gift and donor contact information. By giving appreciated stocks you’ve held for more than a year to Brookside, you get the same tax benefits as paying cash and avoid potential capital gains taxes. To take advantage of this service, donors should contact Milly Hernandez, Client Services Team Leader, at 877-806-4989, or send an email to info@ucfunds.org

Give via Charitable IRA Rollover

The IRA charitable rollover allows individuals over 70 1/2 years of age to make certain charitable contributions directly from your Individual Retirement Account. The transferred assets will not be recognized as income for tax purposes. Making a donation under this provision is simple and straightforward. If you would like to make a contribution to Brookside from your IRA, please speak with your IRA administrator.

In our Hearts, In our Prayers:

The prayers shared aloud on Sunday morning*

Those who grieve, especially
- the family of Doug S. Sr. whose memorial is at the church on August 27th at 11am
- Sue B on the loss of her mother.

Those who feel broken in body, mind, or spirit

The lonely, the isolated, the anxious

The people of Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, and all who live in places of transition or war

Our leaders, our communities, our nation

*Prayers shared on Sunday morning are NOT published here, except by explicit request. If you would like a prayer included in @Brookside, please email office@brooksidechurch.org
